ART ON DEMAND

The Art on Demand concept was presented to Maltese Artists at a seminar held at the Marie Louise Suite at the Radisson Blu Resort on Friday, 29^th.January 2010.

Mr Raimundo Martinez Bendito, Director of the Business Pod Levante S.L of Valencia, Spain, owners of the ‘Art On Demand’ concept, explained how the concept was initially launched some 8 years ago to meet the needs of the National Gallery in London.

At the time, the system included only the works-of-art on display at the London Gallery.

When the system was eventually launched in Spain, it became immediately evident that the range of available works-of-art had to be significantly increased to meet the needs of individual markets.

As a result, Art-on-Demand has, to-day, over 60000 pieces in its portfolio, of which only 10000 are made available at any one time.

Following representations made by their Maltese Partners, Deco Manufacturing, it is intended that all the selected works of Maltese Artists will be constantly available on the system.

The Art-On-Demand concept enables the consumer to select a customized high-quality print from some 10000 works of classical and contemporary art at the touch of a button, at very reasonable prices to the consumer.

Those present at the Marie Louise Suite could appreciate the high quality of each print, as three prints were on display alongside their original.

The Art-On-Demand concept will be launched in Malta in the end March.

Deco Manufacturing, the Art on Demand partners in Malta, noted that the Art-On-Demand selection of works-of-art did not include contemporary Maltese works-of-art.

The presentation at the Radisson Blu Resort, therefore sought to bring the Art-On-Demand concept to the attention of all Maltese Artists and to encourage said artists to submit their works for consideration, with the objective that Maltese contemporary Art will be present on the system by the time the concept is launched in Malta by the end of March.

 The Art-On-Demand system is present in major centers in the UK (including, of course, the National Gallery), Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Canada, Australia, Japan and the USA through nearly 500 ‘kiosks’.

Mr Raimundo Martinez Bendito explained how each sale can only be concluded when the royalty payment due to each artist is received by Art-On-Demand.

The Royalty Payment, that is standard for all types of sale with the exception of works invited to form part of the limited-edition section, is credited to the account of each artist within a few minutes from the completion of each sale.

Each artist has the facility to view his or her account where details of each sale are given.

The artist will then be able to download an invoice from time to time that is sent for payment to the Maltese partner Deco Manufacturing.

There was general agreement that this system of payment was preferred to payment made to artists once every six months.

The License Agreement distributed to all artists will be therefore modified accordingly.

    We shall now give a step by step guide for Maltese Artists on how they may have their works considered for inclusion in the Art-On-Demand selection:

1.         Select any number of your original works that you want to be considered for inclusion in the Art-On-Demand selection;

2.         Submit a low resolution digital photo of each work by email to Mr. George Mifsud at george@decomalta.com cc to steve@decomalta.com. Each submission should include the name of the artist, the name of the work of art and a personalized reference number (Example: John Borg, The spirit calls - No 001)

3.         Each submission is then forwarded to Art on Demand for consideration. Considerations will also include marketing considerations e.g. only a specific number of seascapes are included in the system at any one time.)

4.         Deco Manufacturing will inform the artist of each outcome.

5.         The artist is then required to submit to Deco Manufacturing. on CD, a high resolution digital photo of each selected painting. The artist is to see that colors are caliber and corrected to represent accurately the colors of the original. Each submission is to include the name of the artist, the name of the piece of art, the type of art under which the artist expects the piece to be included and a list of keywords.

6.         Deco Manufacturing will send the CD to Art-On-Demand for processing.

7.         On completion of the processing of each selected piece, but prior to the piece being included in the official Art-On-Demand selection, Deco Manufacturing will produce one print of each piece for the approval or otherwise of the artist.

8.         If the artist approves the print, the Artist will confirm approval by signing on the back of the print while Deco Manufacturing and the Artists will sign the Royalty Agreement. The signed print will, of course, then become the property of Deco Manufacturing.

9.         Art on Demand will then include the selected piece in its system within a week from the signing of the agreement. On his first accepted piece, the artist will contemporarily receive a password to manage his account in the system.

10.       The royalty per print is currently of € 5.00.
